Migrate to Shopify, step by step

Move your products, customers, orders and SEO to Shopify with MigrateGo. Pick CSV for full control over every file, or connect your store's API for a hands-off, automated migration.

CSV migration

A simple, secure and platform-independent way to bring your store data into Shopify.

Platform independent

Secure by default

You stay in control of exactly what data is imported, and when. Nothing leaves your machine until you upload it.

No integrations required

No API keys, plugins or developer setup. Export a file from your current platform and you are ready to go.

Schedule-friendly

Import in batches or during quiet hours, and phase the migration across catalog, customers and orders on your terms.

Why choose CSV?

  • Works with virtually any e-commerce platform that can export data.
  • No development, credentials or configuration needed.
  • Clean and validate your data offline before anything is imported.
  • Ideal for one-time moves or a carefully phased migration.
  • Repeatable: re-run an import after fixing a file, with no side effects.

Migration workflow

  1. 1
Export your data. Pull products, collections, customers and orders out of your current platform as CSV.
  2. 2
Format with our templates. Map your columns to the MigrateGo template so every field lands in the right place.
  3. 3
Upload and review. Drop your files into the import dashboard and preview exactly what will be created.
  4. 4
Import and verify. Run the import, watch progress in real time, and spot-check the results in Shopify.

Best practices & common mistakes

Get a clean import the first time and steer clear of the pitfalls that slow migrations down.

Best practices

Recommended

File preparation

  • Save files as UTF-8 so accents and symbols survive the trip.
  • Keep column headers in the first row, exactly as the template expects.
  • Remove empty rows and unused columns before uploading.
  • Split very large exports into files under 50 MB.

Data validation

  • Confirm every email address is well-formed.
  • Make sure required fields are populated on every row.
  • Keep data types consistent within each column.
  • Test with a small sample batch before the full run.

Import strategy

  • Import in a logical order, customers and products first.
  • Keep backup copies of your original export files.
  • Watch the progress log for warnings and errors.
  • Verify a handful of records after each import.

Common mistakes

Avoid

File format issues

  • Renaming or reordering the template column headers.
  • Saving in an encoding other than UTF-8.
  • Leaving spreadsheet formulas in cells instead of values.
  • Uploading files that exceed the 50 MB limit.

Data quality problems

  • Mixing data types inside the same column.
  • Duplicate rows with no unique identifier.
  • Invalid email or phone number formats.
  • Missing values in required fields.

Import errors

  • Importing orders before their customers exist.
  • Skipping the field-mapping review step.
  • Ignoring warnings in the progress log.
  • Running the full file without a test batch first.

API migration

Connect your current platform's API and let MigrateGo move your store automatically.

Fully automated

1. Get credentials

Sign in to your current platform and generate a read/write API key for your store.

2. Paste into MigrateGo

Drop your store URL and keys into our secure setup form. We encrypt them at rest.

3. Automatic migration

We read your catalog and history over the API and rebuild it in Shopify for you.

How it works

MigrateGo connects to your current platform securely, with no technical effort on your side. Once your API credentials are in place, we map your data to Shopify's structure and handle the entire transfer, including images and relationships.

Secure Automated No manual mapping

WooCommerce API setup

A worked example: generate the credentials MigrateGo needs from a WooCommerce store.

1

Open the REST API settings

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Go to WooCommerce → Settings.
  3. Open the Advanced tab.
  4. Select REST API from the sub-menu.
2

Create a key with Read/Write access

  1. Click Add key.
  2. Set a Description, for example "MigrateGo migration".
  3. Choose an admin User and set Permissions to Read/Write.
  4. Click Generate API key.
3

Copy your Consumer key and secret

WooCommerce shows these once, so copy them straight into MigrateGo before you leave the page.

Consumer key ck_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Consumer secret cs_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Tip: you can confirm the key works with a quick request to /wp-json/wc/v3/products using those credentials.

What you need

Three details connect your store, and here is everything we bring across once you do.
